Witness: 1 dead in confrontation involving state trooper in Miami Gardens

One person died Wednesday morning after a confrontation with a Florida Highway Patrol trooper just off the Palmetto Expressway, according to Miami Gardens police.

According to a witness, a trooper fired at a car and hit someone inside just before 11 a.m. at Northwest 167th Street and 37th Avenue.

Miami Gardens police are investigating, but the Florida Department of Law Enforcement will be the lead agency on the case, said Miami Gardens Chief Antonio Brooklen.
