Topical Reporting: Artificial Intelligence

This award is made possible by Aspen Digital, a program of the Aspen Institute

The Topical Reporting: Artificial Intelligence Award recognizes clarity, accuracy, and transparency in reporting on AI. It aims to elevate journalism that educates and informs the public about AI through clear communication that both eschews tired tropes and promotes more nuanced public discourse about AI. This award will recognize four winners across a range of newsroom sizes (micro, small, medium, and large) and each winner will receive a $1,500 prize.

Judges will consider how the entries emphasize the following:

  • Grounded Discussion of AI Capabilities: Is specific about the type of AI being covered, its design context, and its limitations.
  • Journalistic Transparency & Representativeness: Earns audience trust through well-rounded sourcing, fact-checking, and appropriate context.
