About the Project

This episode of The Stoop podcast is an examination of the challenges that come with organ donation in Black communities. We explore the complex attitudes of Black folks through the story of Arlinda Timmons-Love, who was faced with a difficult decision after her son Maurice was killed at 15 years old.

Through hearing her powerful narrative, we understand the concerns and hesitancy regarding organ donation – including Black suspicion and mistrust of healthcare systems, cultural aspects, and lack of information and outreach to Black communities.

In this emotional episode, we journey with Arlinda through her raw feelings, then her education, and eventually advocacy for organ donation in Black communities.

Throughout the episode, the hosts bring research and statistics on organ donation and hesitancy, and the host Hana shares her own transplant story as well.
