This year, we published a series of social videos around the cutting-edge paleontology discoveries being made in the Americas. These videos all unfolded from an April 2024 video produced by our Senior Video Producer Ruben Rodriguez Perez, about a new dinosaur species from Patagonia, discovered by National Geographic Explorer Diego Pol, that had remarkable audience engagement. Thanks to Diego Pol’s team’s amazing work, we learned of even more exciting discoveries in the works, and we decided to lean into a topic that our followers were telling us they were extra-interested in. We incorporated incredible graphic recreations from Diego Pol’s team and framed the visuals with engaging narrative crafted in the language of platforms like Instagram and TikTok.
The Online Journalism Awards™ (OJAs), launched in May 2000, are the only comprehensive set of journalism prizes honoring excellence in digital journalism around the world.
