Stories From The City

About the Project

These videos are a collection spotlighting the diverse lives and voices of residents of San Francisco. Popular narratives insist that the San Francisco has lost its empathy and become monolithic in its culture, but the video journalism submitted in this entry shows that the city is bursting with complex personalities and personal journeys. The Standard’s videojournalism regularly highlights the urgent problems that residents face, including rising housing prices, mental health challenges, a rapidly changing culture and the city’s delayed economic recovery from Covid.

The videography and post-production showcased in this entry reflect the highest quality standards our newsroom holds when it comes to video journalism: Members of our team shoot the feature footage and create the illustrative imagery in service to the narratives, and rarely rely on secondary sources or stock imagery.
