Los Angeles is within driving distance of many a trail, campsite and park. The Wild functions as a guide for the city’s enthusiastic urban outdoor community, highlighting ways to explore, learn about and co-exist with their natural surroundings. The weekly dispatch, written from the first-person perspective of outdoors reporter Jaclyn Cosgrove, highlights local trails, features interviews with researchers and community leaders and reports on the way seasonal weather or disasters (such as the recent L.A. wildfires) are affecting our natural lands. It also includes a section that highlights three outdoor activities in the Los Angeles area that are taking place that week, a must-read story about the California wilderness and a “P.S.” outdoor tip. Its art — photos taken by Cosgrove on their weekly hikes and overlaid with colorful animations — is meant to highlight the beauty of our natural surroundings and get people excited about going outside. Read altogether, it’s an indispensable resource for anyone who wants to take advantage of Los Angeles’ vast natural surroundings.
