Dave Jorgenson Goes Independent

About the Project

In August 2025, Dave Jorgenson and two of his colleagues left their positions at The Washington Post to create an independent journalism company, Local News International. During his eight years at The Post, Dave developed a global reputation as “The Washington Post TikTok guy.” He grew The Post’s TikTok channel to 1.8 million subscribers by offering an engaging, entertaining and often comedic take on daily news events.

Now Dave and his team are doing this work as solo journalists. Dave’s YouTube channel is a mix of serious and silly. Each day he reaches millions of viewers who only engage with news content on social platforms. Every Dave video is heavily researched, fact-based and fact-checked by his editors. Dave frequently hears from viewers who only learn about important stories by watching his videos and he’s primarily reaching young men who do not consume legacy media sources.

In the aftermath of Charlie Kirk’s assassination, Dave heard from hundreds of young male viewers who find themselves struggling in this modern media world. Dave’s impact is global with viewers around the world.

We believe Dave is a strong candidate for the Excellence in Social Media Management Award for his new short-form storytelling approach which reaches new audiences while still upholding the rigor of traditional journalism.
