From November 2025 – January 2026, Mississippi Today reporters Mukta Joshi, Brian Howey and Nate Rosenfield published a months-long investigation into how Rankin County Sheriff’s Office deputies enlisted inmates in the county jail as enforcers to do powerful officials’ bidding, as well as reporting about the culture of violence at the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office.
