In late 2025, a reader posted the Reuters logo on Facebook and quipped that we should be named the news agency of the new Syria, saying: “All important news about the country comes from Reuters.”
The accolade came after a year in which Reuters dominated coverage of the epochal events unfolding in Syria. Many news organizations examined the crimes of Bashar al-Assad after the dictator was overthrown in late 2024. Reuters exposed unknown abuses of both the old regime and, uniquely, the current government, in scoops and investigations that are shaping the course of events in the new Syria.
