Hamshika’s puzzle: How a Sri Lankan woman seeking asylum in the US ended up in Rwanda

About the Project

This is a multi-media, interactive story told from the point of view of a young woman called Hamshika who was forced to flee violence against Tamils in Sri Lanka with her father. The piece, which features illustrations, drawings, graphics and graphic-novel elements, takes the reader on Hamshika’s terrifying journey from Sri Lanka to India to a shipwreck in the Indian Ocean, to Rwanda and, finally, to the UK. On her journey she is subjected to terrifying ordeals, racism, violence and humiliation as she strives to survive against the odds.
