ICE and Immigration

About the Project

These New York Times visual investigations take an in-depth look at the fallout caused by immigration raids and fatal encounters between officers and civilians. The team’s reporting focused on two incidents that led to the shooting deaths of protestors, as well as a broader tactic immigration agents use called “turn and burn” — a highly aggressive effort to detain people believed to be in the U.S. illegally.

A close analysis of videos showing these episodes unfold revealed how American citizens often get caught up in the raids and sometimes even killed. The pieces explore how ICE’s strategy is at times endangering law enforcement officers and the public, sweeping up citizens and non-citizens alike.
