The Economist’s TikTok channel delivers rigorous analysis, independent thinking and irreverent wit through sharp, creative and highly shareable short-form videos. The content is produced by The Economist’s dedicated video team, including producers, motion-graphics designers and editors, working closely with the expert correspondents and editors. Together, they translate complex reporting on geopolitics, economics, technology, science and culture into compelling social-first storytelling.
The channel presents The Economist’s journalism in a wide range of engaging formats, from concise explainers and data visualisations to on-the-ground reporting and in-depth interviews. In an increasingly volatile and fast-moving world, The Economist tackles difficult questions with clarity, authority and wit, helping audiences understand not just what is happening, but why it matters.
The breadth of the channel’s journalism is reflected in its top-performing videos from the past year, including rapid analysis at the outbreak of the Iran war (9.4m views), a data-driven explainer on the Epstein files (8.9m views) and an in-depth interview with Steve Bannon (7.5m views).
The Online Journalism Awards™ (OJAs), launched in May 2000, are the only comprehensive set of journalism prizes honoring excellence in digital journalism around the world.
